Advice
What do you like about living in the Northwest?
I absolutely love our location! I've lived in both big and small cities, and love having a small-town feel while still having access to the big city. I take advantage of our proximity to Point Defiance and go kayaking and have picnics whenever I can. I'm up in Seattle every few weeks going to concerts, having dinner, and seeing shows. I've gone on hikes to Mt. Rainier, and really enjoy Tacoma's growing arts scene. All in all, the Northwest is the type of place to caters to all sorts of lifestyles.
How is PLU different from other universities?
We are dedicated to our community. It goes past simply making sure that you graduate. It's about making sure that you are being given every possibility and opportunity to succeed - and the "you" isn't just limited to students. PLU strives to make sure every person has the chance to succeed, whether that be within a classroom or an office or the community. Our faculty members, staff members, study away programs, and resources - the internship office, academic advising, the Diversity Center, Career Development, the Women's Center - are here so that each of us has the opportunity to do what we love.
Name one way that PLU has changed your life.
PLU challenged me to become a global citizen. Though I had always wanted to study away, PLU gave me the opportunity to do so twice - once for a month-long program in Australia, and a second semester-long trip to Spain. These two opportunities have heavily influenced who I am today, from my Spanish skills to having witnessed sunrise in the Kata Tjutas. The emphasis on global education here reminded me that the world truly is at our fingertips, and had I not taken these trips, I would have missed out on a huge opportunity to learn more about who I am and who it is I strive to be.
